About Me

I am a psychotherapist in private practice, licensed as a marriage and family therapist since 1976. I am also a certified psychoanalyst, and received my training at the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California, where I am a member of the analytic community.

I graduated from the Supervision Study Program at The Psychotherapy Institute in 2000, and have been supervising staff therapists there since then.

I received my B.A. from the University of Michigan in 1965, and my M.S. from Cal State of the East Bay in 1974.

I am a member and supervisor at The Psychotherapy Institute (TPI), a member of the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California (PINC), and a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT.)

My license number is MFC 8320.

Practicing psychotherapy with a wide range of people and problems for over thirty years has developed my capacity to listen without judgment and create a safe space within which you can begin to speak. This space invites expression of whatever comes to mind, and is a place for interaction and reflection. The analytic approach is especially attuned to whatever emerges from the unconscious, as revealed in dreams, fantasies, free associations, and body sensations, as this material says much about the hidden GPS system that guides so much of our conscious life. Dreamwork is particularly compelling to me, since the exploration of dreams and the stories they tell often greatly enriches our understanding by pointing us in the direction of those issues in our external and internal worlds which are most in need of our attention.

I am warm, compassionate and thoughtful in my approach to doing therapy and very much value a collaborative working relationship, which I believe is central to the healing process. My experience includes psychotherapy with a diverse group of people from many different backgrounds, of different ethnicities, religious beliefs and sexual orientations. I am comfortable working with difference and have great respect for the innate capabilities and strengths in each of us that allow for development, growth and change. I have a strong commitment to issues of social justice and the basic human rights of every individual, which is reflected in my work.
